This proposed innovation would expand MLB All-Star Monday beyond the Home Run Derby by adding new skills competitions earlier in the day. Why Create This Rule The goal is to make All-Star Monday a fuller celebration of baseball, not just power hitting. The Home Run Derby is already a major event, but baseball includes many other skills that fans rarely get to see showcased in a fun, competitive format. A skills competition could introduce fans to more players, draw interest from more team fan bases, and give MLB another way to turn All-Star Week into a true league-wide spectacle. The proposal also includes a possible change to the Home Run Derby itself: determining the winner by total home run distance instead of total home runs.
